RESEARCH INTERESTS

My research interests focus on the relationship between stress, broadly defined, and illness. My past work has considered the reciprocal relationship between depression and physical illness, the relationship between depression, anxiety, stress and cortisol levels, the relationship between psychosocial factors and sleep quality, and the genetics of morning cortisol levels. Current research projects include:
  • investigating differences in cortisol levels across populations
  • investigating the relationship between cortisol levels and anthropometric measures
  • studying links among the social environment, sleep, and health
  • studying patterns of healthcare use and disability in the US Army
