FELLOWSHIPS AND FINANCIAL AID
The Department of Health Studies offers academically qualified applicants full support including tuition, fees, and a stipend. Such assistance is guaranteed through the student's first five years of study, conditional on satisfactory degree progress. The graduate stipend is maintained at a level affording a reasonable local standard of living and is competitive with awards offered at other comparable institutions. The stipend for 2007-2008 is $6,375 per quarter, or $25,500 for the full year. In return, most doctoral students will be expected to work as research assistants on collaborative projects in the Department of Health Studies. Assistantship work will be tailored to and evolve with the student's abilities and interests; it is expected that work on such projects could inform the student's dissertation research. Some student's funding packages may alternatively include teaching requirements beyond the two teaching quarters required of all doctoral students in the Biological Sciences Division.
